3M · IDENTIFICATION IN OPERATIONS AND PRODUCTION
3M marking tape for industrial identification
3M marking tapes identify areas, routes, components and hazard zones. The surface, level of wear and required visibility determine the choice of tape for your marking task.
01
Selection criteria
Start with the surface and level of wear
First define the location and task: are you marking an aisle, a machine or a hazard zone? Check whether the surface is flat or curved, how much wear the marking will face and whether it must be removed later. Colour and width follow from those requirements.

CHOOSING 3M MARKING TAPE
Which 3M tape suits the marking task?
Striped 3M hazard marking tapes such as 766i and 767i provide a conspicuous visual indication; single-colour PVC tapes distinguish areas by colour. For heavily used floors, assess a tape designed for floor marking separately. Reflective vehicle and contour markings have a different purpose and cannot be substituted with ordinary coloured tape.
Tell us the surface, route, load and required supply format. We will assess the tape and a suitable cut format for your application.

QUESTIONS ABOUT 3M MARKING TAPE
How do single-colour and striped 3M marking tapes differ?
Single-colour tapes can identify areas, components or processes by colour. Striped products such as 3M hazard marking tape 766i in yellow and black and 767i in red and white provide a more conspicuous visual indication. The markings required for your site depend on the task and the rules that apply there. Choose the pattern and tape construction for the intended use, rather than choosing on colour alone.
Which 3M marking tape is suitable for floors exposed to wear?
A tape developed for floor marking should be assessed for heavily used floors. The 3M 971 product family is described for floor markings exposed to greater wear; basic PVC tapes such as 764 are intended for less demanding markings. Traffic, floor condition and required service life all affect the choice. This does not establish that every 3M marking tape is suitable for forklift traffic.
What information is needed before cutting 3M marking tape?
We need to know the marking task, surface, route and required width or shape. The level of wear, application process and any later removal also matter. Krückemeyer GmbH can then assess which 3M marking tape and supply format suit your workflow. Cutting and shaping do not alter the documented properties of the selected tape.
